September 11 Memorial Stair Climb.

September 11 Memorial Stair Climb
This event is held on September 11th each year in Downtown Auckland at the BNZ Building. It’s not a race event. Firefighters are expected to wear full level two and BA, and also carry equipment up the Tower. The Firefighters are able to climb in with there brigades, shifts, or just friends that are Firefighters.

The event is to remember all the fallen NZ Firefighters since they have been recorded, The Fallen Firefighters names are read out before firefighters leave to climb. For the 2010 event BA tally’s have been made up with the Fallen Firefighters names. Current firefighters that are friends or family or from the brigades of fallen firefighters are encouraged to carry these tally’s up the tower. Funds collected from the day benefit the NZ Firefighters Welfare Society.

Equipment: Full Level 2 is a minimum, Carrying of BA and or Hose is Optional, Firefighter normally wear either and in most cases both. Note that this can weigh upto 45kg. Look at last years photo’s.

After Function: This is to be held at O’Hagan’s from 12.30pm.
